Check out the ultimate in "out of this world" drum kits... the Spaun Hybrid Kit.  Get the best of both worlds combining acrylic with maple or birch.  You can bring in the louder, more focused qualities of acrylic while maintaining the warm, woody character of maple.  Or, you can combine acrylic with birch for added brightness.  Hybrid kits with wood edges will have a warmer sound that leans more towards the sonic spectrum of an all wood drum kit along with added attack and volume from the acrylic.  Acrylic edge hybrid kits will be more focused and maintain more of the sonic features of an all acrylic drum kit with the added warmth of wood.  Both hybrid styles are visually and sonically unique with a look that demands attention!
