Taylor White

Vonnegutt

Taylor White is unmistakably the “rock” element of Vonnegutt, the latest band signed to Big Boi of Outkast’s Purple Ribbon Records. White’s band has been called an unlikely recipe of pop, rock and punk. With classic emcee skills, pop sensibility and rock dynamics, you get something the literary legend surely never thought he’d be a namesake to – Vonnegutt.

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, White first began playing in local bands with his older brother. Chasing any opportunity to showcase his growing talent, he met Neil Garrard, a fellow high school classmate with a passion for guitar.

Instantly connecting, the duo regularly met, playing gigs together across Atlanta. Fast forward six years later, Garrard (guitarist/vocals) and White (drums) reunited to form the band Vonnegutt. Bringing in vocalist and lyricist Kyle Lucas and Patrick Postlewait on bass…the rest is history.

In the years before Vonnegutt formed, White served as a paratrooper in the 173rd airborne division of the U.S. Army. While in the military, White did not continue drumming, however notes throughout his service, he drew much inspiration from drummers Dave Grohl, Jimmy Chamberlin and Danny Carey.

Returning to his hometown Atlanta, Georgia, White and the members of Vonnegutt began work on their debut EP, “Appetizer.” The track “Bright Eyes” has been featured on the Austin City Limits Music Festival and Lollapalooza playlists after the band performed at each respective festival in 2010. White has also lent his talents to various other track with different acts including Big Boi, Shanell, and Will Pugh of the Cartel, to name a few.

In June 2011, the group released the mixtape, $Free.99 to immediate critical and fan acclaim. Promoting the EP and mixtape, Vonnegutt has been on the road accompanying such acts as Big Boi, Chiddy Bang, 2AM Club and most recently Sam Adams. Next up for White, Vonnegutt hits the roads again, a part of this summer's Vans Warped Tour.
