Joe Northcott

Slagduster

From the small town of grand forks British Columbia Canada, joe Northcott was born to mike and Lori Northcott in October of 1992. Starting from bashing drum sticks on his parents couches at the tender age of two, this young man chose his path before he could say the alphabet! When his father, who is also a drummer, brought home a drum kit that consisted of a bass drum, snare, drum, and ice cream bucket lids, he was just 5 years old. He bashed and bashed on that monstrous kit day after day until Barney was on tv. This lead him to become not only a great drummer, but a respected one at that.

Joe started playing in his first band, a punk/rock band, at the age of 14, which lead to many gigs around his hometown and surrounding areas. Joes main drumming influences at this point in time included John Bonham, Lars Ulrich, and Jimmy 'The Rev' Sullivan. At 16 he joined his next band, which played a mixture of metal and rock covers and original songs as well. Some of which he wrote. They too played a number of gigs around grand forks.

In the late fall of 2010, a man by the name of Shane Sherman was looking to start a new band and was seeking musicians. Joe was first on the calling list. After hearing some of Shane's guitar riffs, Joe was determined to start listening to heavier music. He had never heard anything like it. He practiced even more. Instead of 1 hour a day, he played for over 3 hours. After school, he would walk home, throw his books down, run to his basement, and start playing along to new music that Shane had given him. From Gojira, to Meshuggah, Fear Factory, Devin Townsend, Strapping Young Lad, to even Primus, Joe was all over it. He gained new drumming influences such as Mario Duplantier, Tomas Haake, Mike Portnoy, And Gene Hoglan.

Joe has played a variety of styles of music as well. In 2011, along with some teachers from his high school, he helped back the local choir at many concerts, playing many traditional songs. He has also played on many local artists songs and/or albums.

Joes main focus is his current band, Slagduster. They are slowly on the rise as well. They are currently working on their second album and hoping to release it in the summer of 2013. Be sure to check them out when they play a city near you!
