Eric Seats

Patti Labelle

Born to a loving family in Indianapolis, Indiana, Eric Lamont Seats is the middle of three children born to Sylvia Seats and Leroy Seats Jr. Eric first showed his enthusiasm for music at a very young age. Inspired by his father, Eric received his first drum set at the age of two. His accelerated progress allowed him to be recognized as an artistic child, who would become the astonishing musician, songwriter and producer that we know today. Using his natural talent and ability, Eric was determined to enhance his passion for music.

In 1984, Seats and his family moved to Los Angeles, California, where he now resides. There he attended the Los Angeles County High School for Performing Arts. While in high school, Seats was chosen to play the Timpani with the L.A. Philharmonic, for the very popular ballet, The Nutcracker. He also began his first album recording project, which allowed him to grasp concepts needed for his unfolding musical career.

Immediately after high school, Seats’ artistry for music allowed him to produce songs for a number of R & B recording artists such as Destiny’s Child, Shae Jones, Tank, Chante Moore, Dave Hollister, Playa, 702 and the late R & B superstar, Aaliyah. He has also completed production for various movie soundtracks, including Romeo Must Die and Exit Wounds. Because his style is so versatile, Seats was able to collaborate with Jazz recording artists Walt Johnson, and Brown Baby Girl as well. Aside from production, Seats has toured and played the drums for many artists such as Jon B, Montell Jordan, EnVogue, Deborah Cox, Kelly Price, Mase, Pattie LaBelle, Rhian Benson, Lalah Hathaway, Kenny Lattimore, Doc Powell, Raphael Saadik, DMX and Missy. His work outside of the recording studio is not overlooked. Seats has appeared in Rhian Benson’s music videos “Say How I Feel” and “Stealing My Piece of Mind”. He can also be seen in the Kelly Price DVD recording of her album “This is Who I Am”.

Seats is currently a member of the gospel recording artists, 2006 Stellar Award winning group, The Soul Seekers, who are now working on their second album and awaiting their DVD release, “The Soul Seekers Live”. He is also a team member of the group “Platinum Status”, which is an organization that focuses on the youth, and the at-risk youth of America. The group is designed to provide a creative expression outlet for young adults. Being a part of this organization has empowered Seats to teach music production seminars at various colleges in the state of California. Seats is a co-member of the Grammy Nominated Production Team, “Key Beats Incorporated”. This team can be recognized for producing songs such as Aaliyah’s “Rock Da Boat”, 702’s “Where My Girls At?”, and Destiny’s Child’s “Independent Women Pt. II”.

As he prepares for the release of his self-titled album, Eric Seats is busy with the production of his up and coming musical The Drummistra. As a young man of great talent, Eric is a role model for future young artists. His encouragement for striving musicians is “Success is equivalent to dedication; one without the other is ineffective.”
