Sterling Orion Siegfried
Independent, G2P
Sterling Orion Siegfried was born and raised in America’s heartland, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Sterling grew up with rock star parents that were just one step away from stardom. Sterling’s Father was a highly gifted rock drummer and was always playing in and out of bands while Sterling grew up.
At the age of 15, Sterling was in his first local rock band called Blue Stem, a quirky blues band with tones of metal, blues and reggae.
In college at The University of Tampa, Sterling joined The Standing Shadows through his Theta Chi fraternity brother who played the bass. It was at that time that Sterling got his first Spaun drum kit purchased at sam ash. It was a custom 100% Birch wood fusion kit. This was back in 2003.
The Standing Shadows soon made headway. Under their management, they landed a bunch of great gigs including opening for 3 Doors Down at the Daytona 500. This was a great accomplishment and amazing feeling for Sterling during his college years.
“I can remember playing during the Hershey 300: the race before the big race, and we actually got to play while the Nascar’s were racing. I almost messed up my time as I got enthralled with the power and sound of the nascar’s racing behind my back. It was an incredible rush!”
During his time with The Standing Shadows, they also shared the stage with legends like, The Wailers, Jewel, Grand Funk Rail Road, Night Ranger, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and more.
Over the next few years, Sterling toured, played and recorded for a number of acts including living legend and Rock and Roll Hall of fame inductee, Marty Balin of Jefferson Starship. Marty taught Sterling a lot about music foundation and being able to strip down music to its bare bones. Marty was a big influence on Sterling, having helped him tremendously with his development in just the few months that they worked together. “It was so amazing going to rehearsals with Marty. He would tell me stories of when he met and played with the Beatles, stories about how he helped start out Sly and the Family Stone, and so many from his personal experience with Jefferson Starship and Jefferson Airplane.”
Meanwhile, Sterling dedicated himself to studying and practicing martial arts and full contact kickboxing where he obtained his first degree black belt with Olando “The Warrior” Rivera, 5 x World Champion Kick-boxer. He credits part of his ambidexterity to his years of martial arts and personal training.
While working part time at Sam Ash a few years later, Sterling ran into G2P’s lead singer and guitarist, Nathan Shepherd. After one night of playing and getting to know each other, Sterling solidified himself as G2P’s new drummer.
G2P had just finished a single with Capital USA, and when he joined, Capital had just gave G2P a production contract for a full length album. Since then, G2P released their first EP in August of 2014 and then released their first album in April of 2015.
Their song “Walk Away” hit the indie scene and took off in January of 2015 and ruled the indie radio charts for 2 months. "Walk Away," received national airplay and charted in the top 5 on the Independent Music Network, the top 40 on the National Radio Hits and New Music Weekly, and ranked #68 in the top 200 of the FMQB, one of the nations biggest indie and college radio charts. G2P became one of the biggest indie artists over night.
Funky, heavy and born from the 90’s alternative scene, G2P rocks the house with up beat progressive rhythms that get you dancing, jumping, and bopping out of your seat. Right as you think you know where they’re going with a song, G2P will change at the drop of a dime and show you their love for reggae, punk and even classic rock progressions.
Sterling brings impeccable timing and an eclectic style of simple yet solid grooves to G2P and his live performances show it. With fast paced double rhythms, rock rudiments, jazz improvisation, and punk & metal grooves, you have the fast yet controlled style that is Sterling.
Without Sterling’s focus, tenacity, constant practice, and his inability to take no for an answer, he would never have come this far. Yet, “This is still just the beginning,” Sterling says when asked about his career. “If I had to describe my career as a drummer, it would be that to this day I have yet to play a perfect show. Its not possible to be perfect, yet all I can do is watch my last performance and try to do better the next time.”
Check Sterling’s band’s site out. G2P always has upcoming show dates. As an independent drummer and entrepreneur, Sterling is always looking for more work and fun. You never know what he’ll learn and accomplish next and who he might be working with. Also check out his side projects, Punk Knights and Vegas kingdom: a punk retro goth theatrical act and an electronic hybrid that brings in ambience, meditative and experimental music.
